Introduction to Nonhuman Identity
Author: Lucheek, Last Updated: ????
"Human" is not only a biological species. Human is also an identity, belief, and practice. When one is human, they see themselves as a human, they believe in the factors that cause them to see themselves as human, and they live life behaving like a human.
Not every person on Earth shares the identity, belief, and/or practice of being human. There are multiple sub-cultures that are based around the idea of being, at least in part, something other than human. These sub-cultures can be, and are often, very different in their approach to what this means. However, they all share the general basis of nonhuman identity. These people do not see themselves as human, they believe in the factors that cause them to be other than human, and they might even live life behaving in a way unique to their own nonhuman identity.
This identity affects how a person might understand themselves and the world around them. This affect might be drastic or minor, depending on the person. Nonhuman Identity is a very broad term that can describe many, many different practices and ideals. In short, there is no one way to be nonhuman- very much like there is no one way to be human. However, for many people, the idea of sharing an identity outside one's species is unheard of. Even people who have experiences or beliefs that make them feel outside the boundaries of human may never have heard of any of the sub-cultures and have no words or ideas to express what they feel. They may think themselves sick, abnormal, and wrong.
I hope to provide a resource for people with experiences like these, so they may find a community of other people who share those nonhuman experiences. I want them to know they are not sick, not wrong, and most importantly...not alone.
